A driver, Mr Talabi Ajayi, has
approached an Ado-Ekiti Customary
Court in Ekiti State, seeking dissolution
of his three-year-old marriage to his
wife, Sola. According to the News
Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the petitioner
sought the dissolution on grounds of
alleged frequent fighting and threat to
his life.
He told the court that the respondent
was fond of fighting with him and their
neighbours.
Talabi, a commercial driver, told the
court that the respondent was fond of
fighting over trivial matters... He stated
that the respondent always fight him
whenever he queried her for wrong
actions.
The father of two said there was a day
the respondent fought one of their
neighbours, but all his attempts to settle
the dispute proved abortive. He alleged
that on the midnight after the incident,
the respondent took a cutlass and
threatened to kill him.
According to him, he struggled with the
respondent and eventually collected the
cutlass from her.
He further stated that he had reported
the respondent to her relatives, but she
refused to change. He added that the
respondent was in the habit of coming to
the motor park to embarrass him and
sometimes threaten to kill him
whenever they had any
misunderstanding.
He, therefore, prayed the court to
dissolve his marriage to the respondent
to enable him have peace of mind.
The respondent refuted all the
allegations levelled against her by the
petitioner.
She said that the petitioner failed to
take good care of his children contrary
to his claims that he usually provided
feeding allowance for them.
Sola said one of the issues that often
caused misunderstanding was his
nonchalant attitude to the welfare of the
children.
The respondent prayed the court to
grant her the opportunity to bring her
witnesses to court.
The court president, Mrs Olayinka
Akomolede, therefore, adjourned the
case till March 29 for further hearing
and ordered both parties to come to
court with their witnesses.
