How Saraki And His Aides Embezzled N3.5B From Paris Club Loan Refunds

How Saraki And His Aides Embezzled N3.5B From Paris Club Loan Refunds

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have formally named Senate President Bukola Saraki, a former Managing Director of Heritage Bank, Robert Mbonu, a firm, Melrose General Services Limited, the relationship manager to Mr. Saraki, Kathleen Erhimu, the deputy Chief of Staff to Senator Saraki, Gbenga Peter Makanjuola, as targets of an investigation into the embezzlement of as much as N19 billion that accrued as refunds to state governments that had made excess payments on loans obtained from international lenders, the London and Paris Clubs. Also named by the EFCC as players in the huge scandal are Kolawole Shittu, the supplier of a controversial Range Rover vehicle to Senator Saraki, as well as one Obiora Amobi and one Oladapo Joseph Idowu. In a report forwarded to the Presidency and obtained by SaharaReporters, the EFCC wrote, “Mr. Robert Mbonu is alleged to have received the sum of N3.5 billion into his company's account (Melrose General Services Limited) from the [Nigerian Governors’ Forum] through Account 0005892453 domiciled in Access Bank.” The report identified “one Kathleen Erhimu [as] the Relationship Manager to Dr. Bukola Saraki's account with Access Bank.” The elaborate EFCC report authenticates a series of reports in which SaharaReporters disclosed that Mr. Saraki as well as numerous governors colluded to pocket most of the billions of naira in refunds. Mr. Saraki had accused our website of fabricating the report, claiming that the EFCC was not investigating him in relation to the loan refund fraud. However, the document forwarded to the Presidency by the EFCC outlined Mr. Saraki’s deep involvement in the still unfolding embezzlement saga. A part of the EFCC document reported that, at a meeting, Senator Saraki had “introduced one Joseph Oladapo Idowu and Gbenga Peter Makanjuola his deputy chief of staff to [Ms. Erhimu] and Makanjuola thereafter introduced Mr. Robert Mbonu to Ms. Kathleen Erhimu.” The EFCC told the Presidency that Mr. Mbonu operated corporate accounts for Melrose General Services at Access Bank. The accounts, listed as 0005892453 and 0005653500, were until December 13, 2016 operated as business accounts, according to the EFCC report. The report further disclosed that Halima Kyari, the head of “Private Banking Group” at Access Bank, “stated in a letter dated December 13, 2016, [that] Mr. Robert Mbonu requested a transfer of Melrose General Services Company account from Business Account to a Private Banking Group Platform as he was expecting huge funds into the account. SaharaReporters learned that Mr. Mbonu’s move was at the instance of Senator Saraki who desired the use of the Melrose General Services Company account to warehouse his cut of the funds that came from the London-Paris Club refunds. The EFCC report stated, “Subsequently, on December 14, 2016, the sum of N3.5 billion was lodged into Melrose General Services Company account number 0005892453 domiciled with Access Bank from the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF).” According to the anti-corruption agency, Mr. Mbonu subsequently introduced Mr. Amobi and Mr. Makanjuola to Access Bank as representatives of Melrose General Services Limited. The purpose of the introduction, the EFCC found, was to enable the two men to do cash withdrawals from the account. The report stated that Mr. Amobi and Mr. Makanjuola soon made several cash withdrawals in tranches of N5 million and N10 million. The EFCC report stated that Mr. Mbonu also requested that one Oluyemi Braithwaite, the owner of Reinex Bureau de Change, Caddington Capital Limited and Westgate Limited, provide dollars in exchange for the naira-denominated withdrawals from the erstwhile Melrose account. Mr. Mbonu, a front for Senator Saraki, asked Ms. Braithwaite to hand over the dollars to one Mr. Gbenga in Abuja. According to the EFCC, Ms. Oluyemi Braithwaite sought out one Hassan Dantani Abubakar, a cousin of former military head of state, Abdulsalam Abubakar, to produce the dollars in exchange for the naira provided by Mr. Mbonu. Dantani Abubakar’s role in the saga is significant in establishing another tie to Senator Saraki. Mr. Abubakar, who operates a bureau de change, has had a longstanding relationship with Mr. Saraki. In 2015, several members of the senator’s security detail conspired to steal N300m that Dantani Abubakar was moving for Mr. Saraki. Most of the security operatives, officers of the Department of State Security (DSS), were subsequently arrested when it was established that they ambushed the illicit funds being transported to the senator. The EFCC report stated that Ms. Braithwaite had, over the phone, introduced Mr. Mbonu to Mr. Abubakar. In addition to operating a bureau de change (BDC), Mr. Abubakar also owns several companies, including Hamma Procurement Limited, Ashrab Nigeria Limited and Inspire Solar Application. The EFCC report added that, on December 16, 2016, Melrose paid the sum of N246 million into an account, No. 2030756168, held by Mr. Abubakar’s company, Hamma Procurement Limited, at First Bank. In return, Hamma Procurement released the sum of $500,000 to one Mr. Gbenga in Abuja. Mr. Gbenga, an aide to Mr. Saraki, acknowledged receipt of the same amount, said the EFCC. According to the anti-corruption agency, “on the 21st December, 2016, Ms. Oluyemi Braithwaite contacted Hassan Dantani Abubakar requesting for another transaction of $370,000. Melrose General Services Company transferred the sum of N181m to Inspire Solar Application. The $370,000 was handed over to one Mr. Dapo in Abuja.” Providing more details of the intricate maneuvers used by Senator Saraki to move funds, the EFCC report noted: “That on the January 4th, 2017, Mbonu through Melrose General Services Company transferred the sum of N248, 500,000 to Caddington Capital Limited belonging to Ms. Oluyemi Braithwaite who transferred same to Hassan Dantani Abubakar's FCMB account, Ashrab Nigeria Limited for the sum of $500,000. The dollar equivalent was handed over to Mr. Kolawole Shittu in Abuja an amount reportedly used to purchase a bulletproof Range Rover luxury car recently seized by the Nigerian Customs. “That on January 10, 2017, Mr. Robert Mbonu through Melrose General Services Company transferred the sum of N99, 820,000 to Caddington Capital Limited belonging to Ms. Oluyemi Braithwaite who transferred same to Hassan Dantani Abubakar's FCMB Ashrab Nigeria Limited for the sum of $200,000. The dollar equivalent was handed over to Peter Makanjuola in Abuja. “That on December 19, 2016 there was a cash withdrawal of the sum of N50 million from Melrose General Services account via [a] cheque by Gbenga Peter Makanjuola. “Also, the sum of $1,570,000 was received by the trio of Mr. Gbenga Peter Makanjuola, Mr. Kolawole Shittu and Mr. Oladapo Joseph Idowu at various times and locations at Abuja FCT. “That on the December 26, 2016, Mr. Robert Mbonu called Mrs. Kathleen Erhimu of Access Bank requesting her to source for a customer that would have the sum of $500,000 in exchange for the Naira equivalent. She introduced Mr. Robert Mbonu to Acarast Commercial Limited and Capital Field Investment to help him source for dollars. “That on the 21st December, 2016, GCA Energy Limited paid the sum of $25,000 to Asterio Energy Services Limited which subsequently transferred the sum of $23,200 to Cactus Communication Limited account with Access Bank. “The MD of Sought-After International Synergy Limited, Julius Okedele, stated that Mr. Kelechi Edomobi of Acarast Commercial Enterprises, contacted him and requested to purchase dollars after the transfer of N73,950,000 to Sought-After International Synergy Limited. Mr. Edomobi gave him the account number of Cactus Communication Limited [at] Access Bank as the nominated account to receive the dollar equivalent of the sum of $149,000. The EFCC remarked that their investigation revealed that Cactus Communication Limited “is owned and operated by Joseph Oladapo Idowu, an aide to Bukola Saraki.” The agency further reported “Mr. Kelechi Edomobi also transferred the sum of N1m on January 15, 2017 to Joseph Oladapo Idowu's personal account number 0001679877 with Access Bank Plc. “That Asterio Energy Services Limited on 21st and 22nd December, 2016 transferred $100,000 and $85,000 to Bhaskar Devji Jewelers LLC in Dubai respectively,” noting that this was “the same company that Dr. Bukola Saraki repeatedly made transfers to from his Black Card Account.” According to the EFCC, “Cactus Communication Limited on December 30, 2016 paid the sum of $59,660.67 to Bhaskar Devji Jewelers LLC in Dubai.” In addition, the agency’s report disclosed that Asterio Energy Services Limited had transferred $46,000, $39,000 and $37,620 respectively to Cactus Communication Limited on January 20, 30 and 31, 2017. “Based on the foregoing findings, it is clear that Robert Mbonu, the Managing Director of Melrose General Services Company, and his company were used to help divert proceeds of unlawful activities under the guise of payment for contractual obligations with the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF),” the EFCC wrote in the report to the Presidency. The agency’s report added “all payments received by Melrose General Services Company from the NGF have hitherto been diverted directly via cash withdrawals and indirectly through transfers by Gbenga Peter Makanjuola, Kolawole Shittu and Oladapo Joseph Idowu who are principal aides of the Senate President. “Furthermore, other payments from Melrose General Services Company [have] also been linked to companies that Dr. Bukola Saraki has interest in and [carries] out transactions with. This includes the sum of $183,000 which was transferred to Bhaskar Devji Jewelers, Dubai, a company Dr. Bukola Saraki had repeatedly made payments to.” Added the EFCC: “Also, the sum of N200 million was transferred to Wasp Networks Limited that subsequently transferred the sum of N170 million to Xtract Energy Services Limited, a company that routinely made deposits into Dr. Bukola 's Access Bank United States Domiciliary Account.” In its conclusion, the EFCC stated that a “prima facie case of conspiracy to retain the proceeds of unlawful activities and money laundering contrary to Sections 15(3) and 18(9) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2004 can be established against the aforementioned suspects.” It added that its operatives were investigating the personal accounts of the suspects, including Mr. Saraki.
Three Things I Did While In Prison — Obasanjo

Three Things I Did While In Prison — Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday narrated his prisons experience and declared that he did three things while he was in Yola and Kirikiri prisons serving a jail term for a phantom coup charges by the late military dictator , Sani Abacha . He also said there should be no position that a man should find himself in life where he should not be useful to God . He also posited that the major challenge in life was not how to stay alive but “ what to live for and what to live with . ” Obasanjo said this while recalling his experience as an inmate in Yola Prison where he said he met a hardened armed robber and serial murderer, Baba Ali , who he preached to and later sent to the bible school and who has today become a pastor over a Baptist Church . The ex - President spoke at Shepherdhill Baptist Church , Obanikoro , Lagos , where the Lagos State Baptist Conference held a thanksgiving service to mark his 80 th birthday . The programme was tagged , “Special Commemorative, Commendation and Congratulatory Birthday Service . ” Recalling his time as an inmate , Obasanjo said he did three remarkable things , which were that he built a church while in prison ; started a farm, converted Baba Ali to a Christian and served as prison pastor. He narrated , “There ’ s a difference between joy and happiness . In prison, I had joy but it will be madness for me to say that when I was in prison I was happy. How can you be in prison and say you are happy ? But I was having the joy of God with me , not for one day was I sad. And I am grateful to God for the experience that I had in the prison. “ I will mention three things that God made me to do when I was in Yola Prison. One , God made me to build a church . It ’ s very unusual, I asked the authorities for land , they were reluctant , but eventually they gave me land and immediately , we started getting donations . It was started before I left Yola . Wherever you are , you can still be useful to the work of God . “ Secondly, there was a parcel of land , which was not being used for anything, so , I told the prison authorities that I wanted to farm. They were reluctant but eventually they granted me the permission to farm and I grew enough beans to feed all the inmates and the warders . Don ’ t remain idle , get something doing . ” The third thing he did , Obasanjo said , was at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos where he took over as the prison pastor. He said he took over as prison pastor because the prison authorities banned preachers from coming in after some white garments preachers who came to preach had helped some inmates to escape by dressing them in white garments . He said , “ They made sure we did not receive anybody from outside to come and preach to us or fellowship with us . So , I took over as the prison pastor . And there was a boy whom they had introduced to me , his nickname was Baba Ali . Baba Ali was the head of the armed robbers in the North . And if you were an armed robber and you came to the prison, you must first of all go and pay homage to Baba Ali . If you were going out , you must go to Baba Ali and ask him for instruction on what you had to do next . “ So, I called Baba Ali one day and said , ‘ You are not coming to fellowship ; I want you to be coming to the fellowship . ’ He said , ‘ Baba , don ’ t worry me ; don ’ t worry me at all because God can never forgive me . I have killed so many people in my life ; I have drunk the blood of so many people ; I have eaten the flesh of so many people and God will never forgive me , so , don ’ t waste your time about me . ’ “ I left Baba Ali on that occasion , and I waited for some time before I went back and said , ‘ Baba Ali , you know all you said that you are a murderer, whether you killed only one person or a thousand people , you are a murderer; but have you forgotten that Moses was a murderer but God used him to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt? David was a murderer but God called him a man after my heart. “ By the time I was leaving the prison, I told Baba Ali that if he was able to make it and he would like to go to bible school , I would send him to bible school . Baba Ali came out of prison two years after me . By the time he came out I had become the President of Nigeria . It took him two years to get through to me , when he got to me , I reminded him of our agreement and he said he was ready to go to the bible school . So, I sent him to the seminary . Baba Ali spent two years in the seminary , today Baba Ali is the pastor of a Baptist Church . What is more ? Baba Ali ’ s junior brother took after him and has also become a pastor. ” The church presented Obasanjo with a bible , a bell and a bottle of olive oil . He was accompanied by his wife Bola , Senator Olorunnibe Mamora among others

'Vampire Was An Evil Child, He Killed His Classmate When He Was Just 12 - Mother

'Vampire Was An Evil Child, He Killed His Classmate When He Was Just 12 - Mother

Abaja Isu in Nwangele Council area of Imo State heave a huge sigh of relief following the death of the most dreaded, vicious and deadly notorious robber and kidnap kingpin, Henry Onyekachi Chibueze, a.k.a Vampire, his distraught mother has described him as an evil child, who had always acted like someone possessed by Agwu (Evil spirit), Daily Sun reports. It will be recalled that the deadly criminal otherwise known as Vampire was gunned down on March 2, at Umuowa bush in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State by a combined Inspector General of Police Special Response Team from the Rivers State Police Command and Imo State Police Command. Vampire who was born in 1981 to the family of late Chief Emmanuel Chibueze had been acting as if he was possessed with an evil spirit and had become a terror in the community since a tender age. Before he acquired national and international notoriety, he had committed his first murder when he was just 12 years old during a fight with his fellow pupil, while still in primary five at Umuokpu Community Primary School. It was learnt that he ended his formal education in primary five after the murder incident for which his late father had to pay compensation to the family of the victim. After dropping out of school, he refused to learn any trade, but rather joined some undesirable elements called hunters from the neighboring community who smoked marijuana and engaged in stealing people’s goats and fowls, which they either sold or killed and ate. It was also gathered that Vampire later started a commercial motorcycle business on a hire purchase basis, operating around Isu and Anara in Isiala Mbano mostly at night, returning to the village in the early hours of the morning. His mother, Mrs Beatrice Chibueze who spoke to Saturday Sun in their village, said Vampire was an evil child as all efforts by his late father to ensure that he became a responsible person proved abortive. “Henry Onyekachi Chibueze was born in 1981. My late husband had enrolled him at the Community School Umuokpu in Abaja, but he had to drop out at primary five after he killed his classmate during a fight at school and he was just 12 years old . That incident caused the family a lot of problem and my late husband had to pay compensation to the family of the boy before the matter was resolved. Henry had always acted like somebody who was possessed by Agwu (Evil spirit) and at a time the family had thought of making a sacrifice to the gods of the land to see if that could make him act responsibly”, she revealed. According to her, “when he dropped out from primary school he refused to learn any vocational skill, but had instead joined some bad boys in the community where he started this armed robbery and kidnapping. Even though our family is a polygamous one, my late husband had ensured that all his children were educated, but it was only my son who refused to be useful like his other brothers and sisters. In fact, it was the disgrace and shame brought to the family that led to the death of my late husband, who developed hypertension and died eventually.” Mrs. Chibueze further disclosed that at the height of Vampire’s criminal exploits, members of the family including herself ran away from the village because he was prepared to kill anybody and that before he was arrested in 2015, he had destroyed the roof of his father’s house when he visited the village. She, however, has an appeal to the police to release the two children of the late Vampire: Masters Onyekachi Chibueze and Ezinne Chibuzo Chibueze who had been in the custody of the police since, adding that the kids were innocent of the crimes their father committed. Step mum reacts Also speaking with Saturday Sun, Vampire’s stepmother Mrs. Francisca Chibueze, disclosed that he was too strong headed even as a child and did whatever he wanted regardless of what anybody said. She said that the late father who was a respected man in the community did everything within his powers to ensure that he was useful to himself ,but to no avail. Onyekachi was a very stubborn child, he was always fighting in the community and he was the only child in the family who had refused to go to school or to even learn a trade and my late husband who was his father had done everything to ensure that he was useful to himself, but that failed . It was his criminal activities that led to his father developing high blood pressure that led to his death two years ago. “I had myself advised him severally to emulate his other brothers and sisters who are the pride of the family, while he was still younger before he became a big criminal and brought disgrace to the entire family and community” Community, youth leaders express relief Speaking in the same vein, the chairman of the community, Mr. Obilo John, said that the death of Vampire was a great relief to the people of the community as he did not only bring the name of his family but that of the entire community to shame and disrepute. The community leader said that Vampire was a bloodthirsty person as he had also killed one of his best friends who was popularly known as MC General of Abaja over a minor misunderstanding before he acquired the unenviable status of a notorious kidnapper. “The eventual death of this boy who calls himself Vampire is a big relief to the community as every body is happy because of the bad name and disgrace his criminal activities brought to the community. Before the Police killed him, whenever he came to the village, people of the community would flee because he could kill at the slightest provocation. Henry had killed one of his best friends who was popularly known MC General and he had even killed his fellow pupil during a fight, while he was just 12 years old. I think that the boy must be possessed, because for him to have killed the number of people he had killed means that he was not a normal human being. “The entire community now has resolved that henceforth any of its sons who is discovered to be delinquent would be dealt with immediately as the community does not want another Vampire who had destroyed the image of the community. We have also decided that any stranger who comes to the community will be monitored as well as who the stranger had come to see” Also, one of the youth leaders in the community, Michael Ibekwe, said that the people of the community were made a laughing stock because of the criminal activities of Vampire, as they were often referred to as community of criminals. “We are happy that he was killed, because people of this community were being described as criminals as a result of Vampire and we have also decided that anybody who tries to emulate bad behaviour of Vampire would be severely dealt with because the good name of the community was damaged severely, and it would take several years to repair, just because of the activities of one misguided person who thought that the only way to make money is by kidnapping, armed robbery and killing his victims” Source: Daily Sun

Why Murdered Air Force Lady Dumped Her Lover, Mum Reveals. Photo

Mr. and Mrs. Tolani Oladipupo, parents of the slain aircrafts woman in the Nigerian Air Force, Solape Oladipupo, who was killed by her colleague and lover, Bernard Kalu on March 12, has revealed how the family made frantic effort to prevent the cruel fate that befell their late daughter after they received a prophecy, which warned deceased against engaging in any romantic relationship in her place of work. Solape who was popularly known as Shomzy was murdered by her obsessed lover over the suspicion of infidelity in Makurdi, Benue State. Mrs. Oladipupo told Sunday Sun in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State that the family received a prophecy warning the deceased against engaging in any relationship with anybody at her base in Makurdi, as such relationship could spell doom for her. According to her, the late Solape who was already dating Kalu, her eventual killer before the prophecy, was said to be working towards extricating herself from the doomed relationship when she was murdered. “We were given a prophecy in our church to tell her not to ever date anyone where she worked and we told her. That was when she decided to part ways with Kalu. We didn’t know it was going to lead to this. Even one of her uncles called her to tell her. I think that was how she took the bold step to tell Kalu she wasn’t interested in the relationship anymore. We didn’t know it would result in this. Her father and I gave her a stern warning not to ever get involved in any romantic relationship with anyone within her base,” she said. Meanwhile, the slain aircrafts woman was, last Thursday, buried at the cemetery in Ojo Military Barracks, Ojo, Lagos. Her corpse was flown from the Makurdi Air Force Base to Lagos where family members and friends gathered to pay their last respects. The deceased’s mother collapsed and fainted as the remains of her daughter was being lowered. Speaking in an emotion-laden voice shortly after Solape’s remains were interred, the deceased’s father, Mr. Tolani Oladidupo, who described her death as a huge loss said getting justice for the deceased would be a major source of succour for the family. “Her death is a huge loss to us and we can’t just express how much of pains and agony we share as a family over the death of Solape. You can see that I am just trying to be a man, pacifying my wife and children. I insist that what can provide a kind of succour to us as a family is to see government do something about the case. “I can say her death is our own sacrifice to the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We cannot wake her up again and I am not here to trade my late daughter, but the government should do the needful,” he said, insisting on death penalty for his daughter’s killer. Meanwhile, Sunday Sun reliably gathered that the deceased already has a five year-old daughter. Solape was said to have given birth to a girl, who currently lives with her parents, when she was 16 years old. My late daughter had a kid, says mother of slain Air Force woman How did you get the news of your daughter’s death? When I received the new I became unconscious and fainted immediately. When I was resuscitated, it was still like a dream to me. I still spoke with her the day before she was murdered. I have lost over 70% weight, right now. When we were talking that night, she even said was going to speak with her daughter, and she did. You mean she had a child already? Yes (showing our reporter the child). What’s the name of her child? Her name is Bisola Ogunyemi. And as it is now, how are you taking the loss? The person who killed my daughter won’t go unpunished. He has said he was going to die too and he should be made to die. In a situation where Kalu’s family hires a lawyer to defend him, I will view it as an attempt to cheat us. I know justice would still prevail. Did you have any premonition that such a thing would happen? I have never thought I would lose anyone of them at all. In our church, we were given a prophecy to tell her not to ever date anyone where she worked and we told her. That was when she decided to part ways with Kalu. We didn’t know it was going to lead to this. Even one of her uncles called her to tell her. I think that was how she took the bold step to tell Kalu she wasn’t interested in the relationship any more. We didn’t know it would result in this. Her father and I gave her a stern warning not to ever get involved in any romantic relationship with anyone within her base. That was the prophecy we had. Yes, she told me about Kalu and that was why we had to accept one Sola, who was always calling me, although I have never met him. Would you say you regret allowing your daughter join the military? I won’t say that. No regret because the people there are humans too. There is no job that doesn’t come with its own risk. The rest there are humans too and some even grew very old on the job and retired. She had got an admission into the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education before she was recruited into the Nigerian Air Force. So, you don’t have any regret whatsoever? No, I don’t have any regret. In fact, I don’t mind if the government can compensate the family by recruiting some of her siblings into the military.

The Enugu State Police Command has discovered a shallow grave where the remains of the former Chief Security Officer for Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mr Ejiofor Enechi, were buried. Enechi was kidnapped by a syndicate in December, 2016. Two top members of the kidnap gang, Chijioke Ozor alias earthquake and one Anselem Ngana were arrested in February 2017 after a fierce gun battle with members of the police anti- kidnapping unit in Enugu who trailed the suspects to their hideout in the forest – ‘Malaysian Forest where kidnappers dump dead bodies. Enechi’s shallow grave was found on March 15, at the Aniocha Forest, Nimbo in the local government, following the arrest of the duo. The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Superintendent Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects and consequent discovery of Ejiofor’s remains in the forest to newsmen on Friday. According to him, Ozor and Ngana were members of the banned Oda Nimbo Vigilante Group in the area who had been involved in the kidnap of over 20 persons along the Nsukka- Uzo-Uwani – Onitsha road, in recent times. “They were among about 30 other members of the dreaded group who were being hunted by security agents following the kidnap and murder of Ejiofor, after his relations had paid N2 million ransom for his release. “Ozor, who hails from Ugwunani village in Aku, Igboetiti Local Government Area of the state, led the police to the shallow grave in the forest where the remains were exhumed. “Our detectives discovered the shallow grave and the shrine where the gangsters took their victims to at the Aniocha Forest which stretches to Eshi River in Kogi State. “Apart from Ejiofor’s remains, they found several motorcycles of other victims who must have been killed by same members of the vigilante group. “Each time they kidnapped their victims, they blamed the action on Fulani herdsmen but it is now clear that the allegations against the Fulani herdsmen were diversionary. “The forest is popularly known as Malaysia or Ugbo Ekwuru behind the Ugwuijoro Village in Nimbo. “Ngana is from Akpama Nimbo and he was one of those in charge of monitoring Ejifor’s movements for other members of Oda Nimbo Vigilante group. ”Earthquake (Ozor) was among those who took him to the bush where he was allegedly murdered instead of the shrine. “Over 30 members of the killer gang are still on the run and we are on their hot chase,” the PPRO added.

Senator Dino Melaye Had Only 3 Credits In His WASC Results - Sahara Reporters

SaharaReporters has obtained Senator Dino Melaye’s West African Examination Council (WAEC) result sheets showing that the embattled senator was a dismal student who earned only three credits. The result sheet for the senator, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who represents Kogi West senatorial district, came from a secondary school attended by Mr. Melaye, even though he had kept that aspect of his academic history hidden from the public by scrubbing the school from his profile on the website of the Nigerian Senate. Mr. Melaye sat for the WAEC exams at the Abdulazeez Attah Memorial College, Okeke in Kogi State. His results, exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, reveal that Senator Melaye, whose name on the result sheets was registered as Daniel Jonah O. Melaiye, only made three credits in Christian Religious Studies (C5), Agricultural Science (A3) and Biology (C6). Melaye took 6 other subjects including English Language (P8), Mathematics (P8), Chemistry (P8), Economics (P7) and Physics (F9). The dismal performance meant that Mr. Melaye did not have the minimum requisite credits to gain admission into a Nigerian university to study for a bachelor’s degree. In fact, the only way he could have been admitted for studies at a Nigerian university was if he earned other credits from another secondary school. Mr. Melaye did not list his secondary school education on his www.linkedin.com profile. Nor did he provide it on his senatorial profile on the website of the Nigerian National Assembly. Instead, he listed Gandun Nasarawa Primary School in Kano as the source of his West African School Certificate. Pupils in primary school are not eligible to sit WAEC exams. Authorities at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria have stopped responding to inquiries from the media to provide proof that Mr. Melaye fulfilled the requirements for admission and graduation at the university in 1993. Two of Mr. Melaye’s classmates yesterday disclosed that the senator was impeached as the President of the National Association of Geography Students (NAGS) in 1998/99 because he was accused of stealing a brand new TV set purchased by the association. He replaced the stolen TV set with an old one. Since Mr. Melaye’s certificate scandal broke, the senator has sued SaharaReporters for libel and defamation, making a court appearance at a Federal Capital Territory court in Abuja. The senator has also today petitioned the Inspector General of the Nigerian police claiming that the expose of his shady academic records by SaharaReporters constitutes a “cybercrime”.

Suicide: Doctor's Family Chases Journalists And Sympathizers. - The New Telegraph

It has been alleged that the family of late Dr. Orji Allwell Chiawolamoke, who jumped into the Lagoon on Sunday from the Third Mainland Bridge while on his way back from church, yesterday chased sympathisers and journalists away from their Abule-Ijesha home at Somolu area of Lagos State. This came as the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi- Araba, established a Suicide Prevention Service Centre. About noon, Orji’s elder brother arrived and rushed into the apartment. A few minutes later, he ordered all the sympathisers, journalists and church members to leave. Orji’s elder brother, who was visibly angry, marched everybody to the gate and thereafter shut it. He warned journalists, who besieged their house to leave as the death of their brother was a complex one. He said: “We don’t want to see family members, journalists and neighbours. We are mourning our brother; we need privacy to sort out something. We didn’t invite journalists.” This was confirmed by an emergency response team member, who craved anonymity. He said: “The last time I called the family, one of them reigned courses on me until I informed him that I was not a journalist but an emergency officer.” It was observed that those who came to sympathise with Orji’s mother didn’t stay long before taking their leave. Once they stepped out, the gate would be slammed, to prevent people from entering. Efforts to get the burial plans proved abortive as none of the members was ready to comment on the issue. It was learnt that family members were angry with the way the media carried their tragic story. A source said that Orji’s relatives were angry that what was seen as the most tragic incident in the family was blown out of proportion and celebrated by the media. Meanwhile, emergency responders told our correspondent that construction workers in a Japanese firm discovered the body floating on the water. One of them, who claimed to have received a text message via the Lagos State Environment and Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), an agency responsible for picking up of bodies on the road or disaster victims, said the doctor’s body was found about 3:48 p.m. on Wednesday. The source said: “Immediately the construction workers sighted the body, they informed their Japanese bosses who then tied it to one of the vessels to prevent it from floating to other area owing to tidal waves movement. That was when they alerted the Marine Police, SEHMU, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders. “When they arrived, they moved the body to the Marine Police Headquarters at Awolowo Road, before the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, was informed. The family members were invited and they confirmed that the body was Orji’s.” When the New Telegraph visited the hospital yesterday, there was no sign of a condolence register opened in honour of the doctor. Also, no photograph of Orji was hung inside or outside the hospital, to indicate the tragic loss. Rather, normal hospital operations went on as usual. Patients were in the patients’ waiting area. One after the other, they were ushered into the doctor’s office for consultation and treatment. The hospital environment was serene as normal day- to-day activities went on throughout the two hours that our correspondent spent there. A doctor on duty, who did not give his name, referred the New Telegraph to the headquarters of Mt. Sinai at 30, Falolu Street, Lawanson in Lagos, where he said official comment from the hospital would be issued from. When asked whether a condolence register has been opened in honour of Orji at the headquarters, he said, “I have not been to the headquarters in Falolu, hence I don’t know. You will find out if you get there. “At the appropriate time, Mt. Sinai, as a corporate organisation, would make its plan known (in connection with the burial).” The doctor added that the hospital was already in touch with Orji’s family. When told that those at the headquarters might not know Orji since he did not work there, the doctor said: “They employed him.” However, efforts to get the comment of the Medical Director at the Mt. Sinai Headquarters were resisted by a front desk officer. Responding to the request from the New Telegraph to see the medical director, the receptionist said: “He is not around.” As it was at the Papa Ajao branch, no condolence register was opened for Orji at the Mt. Sinai Headquarters at Falolu. When our correspondent visited Ojuelegba District of the Deeper Life Church yesterday, the pastor refrained from commenting on Orji’s suicide. According to him, the authority to speak on such matters must be obtained from the General Overseer, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi. However, a member of the church’s marriage committee, who identified himself as Mr. Ibekwe, said Oji’s action was an embarrassment to all the members of Deeper Life. Ibekwe said the mother of the deceased was a pastor in the church. As if responding to Orji’s death, LUTH has initiated what it called the Suicide Research and Prevention Initiative and Staff Emotional Care Services (SURPIN/ SECS). The hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Chris Bode, said the centre would collaborate with other relevant government agencies to help save lives and prevent death by suicide both locally and nationally.

Magistrate’s Absence Stalls Hearing On Kemi Olunloyo’s Bail

Magistrate’s Absence Stalls Hearing On Kemi Olunloyo’s Bail

THE absence of a magistrate, Alatuwo Fubara, at the Port Harcourt Magistrate’s Court on Thursday stalled the hearing on bail application of a blogger, Kemi Olunloyo, and a Port Harcourt-based publisher, Samuel Walson. Olunloyo, the daughter of a former Governor of Oyo State, Omololu Olunloyo, and Walson were arrested for allegedly publishing materials believed to have defamed a frontline cleric, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, of the Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt. Though they were expected to appear in court in the morning, it was gathered that the absence of Fubara, who was expected to preside over the matter caused them to stay back in prison. The magistrate was said to be unable to come to the court as a result of ill health. While the duo’s lawyers and counsel for Salvation Ministries were present at the court, majority of those at the magistrate court were journalists and bloggers, who came to cover the hearing and also showed solidarity with their colleagues. Olunloyo was arrested in Lagos, while Walson was apprehended in Port Harcourt. They were remanded in the Port Harcourt Prison. Some of their friends told journalists that the suspects were currently having health challenges. The court, however, fixed March 30, 2017, for hearing on the bail application of the journalists. Speaking outside the court premises, the counsel for Olunloyo, Mr. Eugene Meabi, expressed regret that the bail hearing for her client could not take place as scheduled. Meabi said, “It is sad, but we firmly believe that on the 30th of this month, the bail application will go on. It is a situation that we are not happy about. “But we are going to align our position with that of the court. It is a sad development. We will hold on and keep faith. The suspect is ill,” he said. In his remark, Phoebe Fawehinmi, who is the counsel for Walson, explained that her client was diabetic and was looking forward to the hearing on his bail application. She maintained that justice must be done, adding that journalism was not a crime.
President Buhari Orders Sack Of Permanent Secretary For Defrauding Federal Government

President Buhari Orders Sack Of Permanent Secretary For Defrauding Federal Government

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the sack of a Permanent Secretary, who has been allegedly using his office to defraud the Federal Government through the award of phantom contracts worth billions of Naira to himself. The permanent secretary, was appointed by Buhari in 2015, was fired, Tuesday, on the orders of the President. A source in the ministry confirmed that two police officers drove the sacked permanent secretary from the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, raising concerns as to what might have led to such an action. A Presidency source confirmed to Vanguard that the President ordered the immediate removal of the top civil servant, who presided over the affairs of one of the strategic ministries handling intervention programmes in the country following evidence that he awarded contracts to companies belonging to him. Vanguard learned that the sacked permanent secretary had deployed several strategies to evade a sting operation, which had been planned by one of the anti-graft agencies, thereby making it impossible for the operatives to track him down. It was learned that key officials of the ministry, who got wind of the illicit activities of the permanent secretary, drew the attention of security agencies to the development and called for urgent investigation of the man. One of the security agency officials, who handled the investigation of the sacked permanent secretary, told our correspondent that the sting operation planned against the official was frustrated by him and his agents, forcing them to delay his arrest since January this year. “We have been monitoring the man and the various companies being used by him to siphon huge sums of money from the ministry, which handles intervention programmes in the Niger Delta region but he has been very smart and suspicious of our movement, thereby making it impossible for us to arrest him despite the ambush we laid for him and his cronies,” one of the operatives told Vanguard last night. He said: “But Mr. President did not waste time in asking the Head of Service of the Federation to sack the man with immediate effect as soon as he got to know that the man had used over 500 companies to award fake contracts to himself and move huge sums of money from the ministry in question.” “In fact, the discovery of the large scale fraud in the ministry, which has suffered a lot of project failure and the subsequent sacking of the permanent secretary by Mr. President, followed painstaking investigation by the anti- corruption agencies, which will soon charge the man to court,” the source added.

Nigerian Man Who Underwent Manh00d Transplant In Egypt Welcomes Baby Girl.

Wife of Zaria man, Muhammad Sirajo Musa, who got a joystick transplant in in Egypt has a new baby girl. During the Eid-el-Fitr of 2009, Musa on his way to the prayer ground was involved in an accident in which his joystick was severed. He was first treated at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria before he was referred to an Egyptian hospital where a new joystick was developed for him. At the first surgery, the Egyptian doctors moulded the manhood by extracting muscles from Musa’s thigh and arm. The manhood was planted beneath the position of the severed joystick and was nursed for nine months before it was removed and planted in the original position. Many residents of Zaria and other Nigerians doubted the possibility of Musa’s coming back to his normal sexual life with artificial manhood, but that doubt was cleared last week when Salamatu Maharazu, Musa’s wife, gave birth to a bouncing baby girl. The excitement on Musa’s face was infectious when Daily Trust correspondent visited him at his family house in Anguwan Tukurwa inside the ancient walls of Zaria. He said; “I give Allah all the glory. He was the one that saw me through the trauma of losing my manhood. As you can see, here is my 8-day-old baby. I have to also express my appreciation to the emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, because he was the one that sponsored my treatment. I also wish to thank Alhaji Isiyaka who also contributed greatly to my treatment. I named my daughter Amatul-azeez.” Malama Salamatu said patience and believe in the powers of Allah were the factors that kept the family together during their trying time. She added; “I am happy to say that my husband is back to life and this baby is the testimony. Praise is due to Allah.” Source; Daily Trust

New Photos Of The Woman Who Carries Oxygen Tank Around For Survival.

A new transformation has begun in the life of Gladys Kamande, the Kenyan woman who caught the attention of many both locally and abroad when her medical story was shared online after being approached by a little boy. The young boy who was begging her busted into tears after seeing her with an oxygen tank which she relies on for survival. The woman who traveled to India with her daughter for Trachea surgery and many other interventions at BLK SUPER Specialty HOSPITAL just landed in her country few hours ago without any oxygen support..…. According to reports, there is some slight improvement in the fact that Gladys can survive by breathing freely without the machines for some hours. She however would require consistency in pumping in the oxygen until such a time her lungs will be stronger enough. We wish her the best and hopes she makes a full recovery.

Suicide: Confusion As Doctor’s Family Rejects Corpse

Family members of Allwell Orji, a medical doctor that jumped into the Lagos Lagoon , stormed the premises of the Marine Police on Awolowo Way , Ikoyi, Lagos State , on Tuesday to identify a body recovered by the police from the lagoon on the Third Mainland Bridge . But the relatives , who were eager to claim the remains of their member for burial , were disappointed when they discovered that the corpse was not that of the doctor . They were, however , told to remain calm while the search for Orji’ s body in the lagoon continued. This is just as reports from some quarters stated that the doctor was depressed as a result of a health challenge which also reportedly hindered his elevation in Mount Sinai Hospital , Papa Ajao , Mushin , where he worked. Colleagues of the doctor at the hospital approached by our correspondent declined comments and directed him to the Chief Medical Director at the facility ’ s head office on Falolu Road, Surulere . Efforts by PUNCH Metro to meet with the CMD on Tuesday proved abortive as a woman at the hospital ’ s reception said he was not around . She also turned down our correspondent ’ s request for the CMD’ s phone number. The woman, who declined to give her name , said , “ The CMD is not in town . We are not allowed to give out his phone number. ” The doctor ’ s family members had told journalists to excuse them from comments surrounding the incident on Monday when PUNCH Metro visited his residence on Odunukan Street , Abule Ijesha , Yaba . It had been reported that Orji was driven in his Sport Utility Vehicle with number plate , LND 476 EE, en route to Lagos Island at about 4 pm on Sunday when he told his driver to stop after receiving a call . The unmarried doctor disembarked from the vehicle, headed for the railings on the edge of the bridge and jumped into the lagoon . The LASEMA General Manager , Mr . Adesina Tiamiyu, on Tuesday stated that emergency officials had intensified efforts to recover Orji’ s body . He added that fishermen around the area had been informed to alert security and emergency agencies if they found the body in any part of the lagoon. He said , “ Some of the family members came to the office of the Marine Police with the driver and they confirmed that the corpse we found was not that of Dr Orji. They said the clothes on the body were not the ones worn by the doctor that day . The search for the doctor ’ s remains continues . ”

"Neither Senate Nor DSS Can Stop My Fight Against Corruption" — Magu

"Neither Senate Nor DSS Can Stop My Fight Against Corruption" — Magu

Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu, has vowed to continue the fight against corruption, stressing that neither the rejection of his nomination by the Senate nor the report by the Department of State Security (DSS) that he is ‘unfit’ to head the anti-graft agency can stop him. Magu said this when he addressed a coalition of civil society groups at the entrance to the National Assembly. “My priority is to fight corruption. My confirmation has not changed anything. We have always been on duty I will work until the last day whether confirmation or no confirmation. “The greatest violation against human right is crime against the society and the humanity but everybody has a duty and responsibility to fight corruption and I also has a responsibility. I assure you that we will fight to finish. “We will never be deterred because what we are doing is trying to investigate what has gone before and protect the future of our children and our future generation. So, if we don’t work today and fight against corruption, the future is not guaranteed, the future of our children is not guaranteed. “So, we must wake up, where ever you find yourself, fight corruption. Anytime you discover that I am corrupt, expose me.”

#BBNaija: ThinTallTony Or Tboss Will Get Evicted On Sunday - Opinion

Four (4) Big Brother Naija Housemates were put up for eviction, Efe, Debbie-Rise, ThinTallTony And Tboss, now let's go down to the reason why i think TTT or Tboss (i.e If Only One Person Gets Evicted) Will be out of big brother naija come sunday.
Now based on TTT, Nigerians have found him to be boring and also a liar, you would recall that he claimed he's not married, he also said that he didn't have a daughter as the media speculates it, ThinTallTony doesn't have a huge fan base anymore, according to an online polls for bbnaija, ThinTallTony was second to last in the polls, while Tboss carried the last position.

Now let's move over to Tboss,The very main reason, Nigerians won't vote for her, is because she said that "If She wins The 25M, she will spend it in one week" , A twitter follower came to her rescue, telling me that she said that "Someone can spend 25M in one week" and not what the media said it to be!
But the harm has already been done, and i don't think there is a going back, Second reason why (Some) nigerians want Tboss Out, was because of the sex scandal with kemen, some claimed that she knew what was happening. Let's see what Sunday's eviction will bring for us!!

"Nigerian Airforce Personel Carefully Planned The Death Of His Girlfriend" - DailyTrust...

Fresh revelation yesterday suggested that the Air Force personnel, Aircraft Man (ACM) Kalu B.A who gunned down his female colleague and lover over suspicion that she was cheating on him had planned his action well ahead. The accused, Kalu had on Sunday morning pulled the trigger of his service gun on his colleague girlfriend, Aircraft Woman (ACW) Oladipupo Solape at their quarters in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Tactical Air Command in Makurdi when he allegedly found her with another man. Daily Trust gathered yesterday from witnesses at the NAF base that the jealous lover and his deceased girlfriend were course mates at the Air Force training camp and that both began their soldiering career in January this year. It was learnt that Kalu, an Igbo man and his now deceased Yoruba lover had related as two inseparable lovebirds to the admiration of those who knew them until suspicion heightened in the mind of the accused that she was cheating on him with a male youth corps member. He was said to have obtained the rifle he used against Oladipupo from his unit at NAF base after the 5am emergency wakeup parade which allowed soldiers on duty to sign for a rifle for the day. A source who has close knowledge of the incident told Daily Trust in confidence, that “The corps member boyfriend had spent the night with the Air Force lady. The way Kalu went about his action proves that the action was predetermined. Early hours of the Sunday morning after the sound of the emergency alert about 5am, troops gathered at the appropriate spot to take instruction from their superiors and to proceed to sign for their rifles for the day. Kalu, after obtaining his rifle had moved straight to the lady’s house where she was with her corps member boyfriend, and shot her in the neck.” The source added that Kalu made attempt on the life of the corps member who struggled with him until the bullet hooked as he tried to pull the trigger, making it possible for the corps member to escape. Kalu, apart from leaving a suicide note behind before embarking on his act, had on the eve of the tragedy hinted on his face book wall that Saturday night would be his last moment at the base because he was going to do something that would shock the world. He said in his suicide note: “It is a prestige for me writing this because it would be read by most top men. It is a love story of a guy falling in love with a wrong witch who pretended to be good.” The Command Public Relations Officer, Wing Commander Emmanuel Iheoma would not speak on the incident. He insisted that the details would be made known on completion of investigation. Our correspondent gathered that the accused would be court martialed, dismissed and handed over to police for civil legal action, and it has been reported that a psychiatric test process had started to determine Kalu’s mental health.
50-year-old Grandmother Sells Three-year-old Girl To Pay Rent

50-year-old Grandmother Sells Three-year-old Girl To Pay Rent

A 50-year-old grandmother, Rita Eze, has confessed to being a member of a syndicate that allegedly involved in abducting children from Lagos and selling them in Anambra State.

Eze was paraded along with one Ogochi Nwekei and Gladys Augustine at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday. The fourth suspect, Elizabeth, who was said to be ill, was not paraded.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Augustine, who claimed to be Mary John, connived with one Samuel, who is at large, to abduct three-year-old Oluwasemilore Adebiyi, from her parents’ residence in the Alagbado area of Lagos.

To hatch the plan, 28-year-old Augustine enrolled for beads-making apprenticeship at Oluwasemilore’s mother’s shop in January, giving her name as Mary John. She fled to Anambra with the girl seven days after.

The girl was handed over to Eze, who confessed to selling her to Elizabeth through Nwekei, for N500,000. Oluwasemilore was, however, recovered by the police after Augustine was arrested in the Badagry area of Lagos on February 23.

PUNCH Metro had further reported that some parents from different parts of the state had stormed the command and identified Augustine as the abductor of their children, saying the suspect adopted the same gimmick with which Oluwasemilore was abducted.

The victims included four-year-old Farouk and his sister, Kafayat, 6, who were allegedly abducted in the Okokomaiko area in November 2016. The children had yet to be found.

But Augustine denied abducting the kids, saying, Oluwasemilore was her first abduction. She said Samuel had lied to her that he and Oluwasemilore’s mother, Tobiloba Adebiyi, gave birth to the girl, but she (Tobiloba) denied him access to the girl.

The Cross River State indigene stated that Samuel introduced Eze to her as his mother and promised her N50,000 if the plan worked out.

She said, “I came to Lagos in 2010 and I worked as a housemaid. I used the money I got to open a shop. Eventually, I was sent away from the shop and I needed money to start another business. I met Samuel at Mowo bus stop in Badagry in January.

“He said he impregnated a woman and the woman (Tobiloba) left him to marry another man. He said he wanted to get back the child, but the woman refused. He asked me to work for the woman in order to snatch the child and he promised to give me N50,000. On the day I snatched the girl, I took her to a bus stop and bought her a snack.

“When I took the girl to Samuel, he said I should take her to his mother, Mrs. Eze, in Anambra. He said he would tell the girl’s mother that he was the one who took her. I later returned to Lagos, thinking he had told the woman. I was surprised when the police arrested me.”

The grandmother, Eze, told PUNCH Metro that she took N40,000 from the proceed, gave Augustine N60,000 and sent the remaining sum to Samuel. She added that she used the money to pay the rent on her apartment.

She said, “I met Michael in December 2016 at a party in Awka through a secondary school friend, who is an aunt to him. He told me that he impregnated a woman in Lagos and that he would send the child to me to help take care of her. When Gladys (Augustine) brought the girl, Samuel told me to sell her for N500,000.

“I informed Ogochi (Nwekei) and she said one of her friends, Elizabeth, wanted to buy a child. Elizabeth paid N500,000. Samuel told me to give Augustine N50,000 and another N10,000 for her transport back to Lagos, while I got N40,000. I sent the remaining N400,000 to Samuel. I used the money to pay my house rent. I have five children and grandchildren.”

Sixty-year-old Nwekei said she only facilitated the sale of the girl, claiming that she did not receive anything from the money.

“I told Rita (Eze) that a friend, Elizabeth, wanted to adopt a child and she promised to call me whenever she got one. One day, she called me that a child was brought to her. I asked her whether there would not be any problem and she assured me that there would be none. I didn’t know it would turn out this way,” she added.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, while briefing journalists on the arrest, said the suspects would subsequently be charged to court.
Buhari Okays N4,500 Subsidy For N- Power Graduates To Buy Tablets

Buhari Okays N4,500 Subsidy For N- Power Graduates To Buy Tablets

ABUJA-Federal government has approved the sum of N4,500 for each of the 200,000 beneficiaries of N-Power Volunteer Corps jobs for the purchase of an enhanced electronic device. The device would be loaded with different applications that would further improve the skills of the beneficiaries and afford them additional training opportunities during the two-year duration of the job program. Also, a total of 149, 669 Nigerian graduates of the 200,000 are now collecting their monthly stipends of N30,000 monthly having been physically verified and deployed across the 36 states and FCT. Mr. Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made the disclosure while giving update on the Social Investment Programmes of the present administration. According to Akande who issued a statement, the device grant was in conjunction with the Bank of Industry (BoI) which has extended an asset finance of 20 months to each of the 200,000 N-Power beneficiaries. He explained: “While each of the beneficiaries after being verified would select their choice of device amongst nine different BOI pre-approved vendors, the price ranges from N3,000 to N6,700 monthly deductions for the next 20months. “Therefore in some cases the N4,500 device grant would cover the full monthly deduction cost while in other cases the graduate authorizes BOI to deduct the additional differential cost from their monthly stipends depending on the device chosen.” The Vice President’s Spokesman also noted that “6 of the 9 BOI pre-approved vendors are indigenous local brands in pursuit of the Buhari administration’s push for Local Content.” He said “almost 100,000 graduate N- Power beneficiaries have completed their orders for the devices, adding that the Bank of Industry is in charge of affecting the orders made. The plan is to conduct the order of the devices in two batches of 100,000 each, one after the other. “It was further disclosed that all the 149,669 N-Power beneficiaries now collecting their stipends have been physically verified and deployed, while their given bank account information have also been matched with the Bank Verification Number.” The SSA said that “in December, about 112,475 of the N-Power graduate beneficiaries received the N30,000 monthly stipends, and the number came close to 150,000, both in January and February meaning about that number are now receiving their up-to-date stipends from the N-Power Volunteer Corps.” Akande also noted “that now beneficiaries across the 36 States of the Federation, and the FCT have been verified, totaling the 150,000 figure. He said the balance 50,000 of the 200,000 beneficiaries engaged by the FG are those who so far could not be paid for various reasons. “This includes those who were disqualified during verification on the basis of age-over 35, and inadequate academic qualification. The N-Power is for university, polytechnics and College of Education graduates only. There were also some of the selected 200,000 who were ‘no shows’ meaning they simply did not report for verification at all. Others who could not be paid were those whose personal information details were faulty, including those whose marital status have changed. There are also those who used different names and differing personal information. And lastly there are also those whose banking information simply do not match with their BVN banking records. In the case of those whose marital status have changed, Akande explained that their information is now being updated through the various States and FCT Focal Persons and then they would be represented for payment. He also disclosed that those who have sought redeployment to other states are among the 50,000 and in such cases, they will be considered alongside those to be replaced from the N-Power waiting list where necessary. “The process for the replacement of those who did not show up and those disqualified would also resume shortly to bring the number back to 200,000 for the first batch of the 500,000 promised by the Buhari administration”, he said.
