“Taking Fanta, Sprite with vitamin c is poisonous” – Court orders NAFDAC to warn Nigerians…

A Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, yesterday ordered the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to compel Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC) Plc, manufacturers of Fanta and Sprite soft drinks, to include a written warning that the drinks should not be taken with Vitamin C. Justice Adedayo Oyebanji gave the order while delivering judgment in a suit by a Lagos businessman, Dr. Emmanuel Fijabi Adebo, and his firm, Fijabi Adebo Holdings Ltd., against NBC and NAFDAC. The court warned that taking Fanta and Sprite with Vitamin C is poisonous and awarded N2 million against NAFDAC for failing “to live up to expectations”. It said NAFDAC failed Nigerians by certifying as satisfactory for human consumption, products which, in the United Kingdom (UK), failed sample test for human consumption and became poisonous in the presence of Ascorbic Acid, known as Vitamin C.' The plaintiffs urged the court to declare the NBC was negligent and breached the duty of care owed its customers and consumers in the production of Fanta and Sprite with excessive “benzoic acid and sunset” additive. Fijabi also urged the court to direct NAFDAC to conduct routine laboratory tests of all soft drinks and allied products of the company, to guarantee their safety. Counsel to the plaintiffs, Mr. Abiodun Onidare, in an amended statement of claim, alleged that sometime in March 2007, Fijabi Adebo Holdings purchased large quantities of Coca-Cola, Fanta Orange, Sprite, Fanta Lemon, Fanta Pineapple and Soda Water from NBC for export to the UK for retail purpose. “In consideration of the fact that this case was filed in 2008 and has been in court for nine years, N2 million is awarded against NAFDAC. Interest shall be paid on the cost awarded at the rate of 10 per cent per annum until liquidation of the said sum,” Justice Oyebanji said.

Maikori In Cell With Herdsmen, To Appear In Court Monday

The Chief Executive Officer, Chocolate City Records, Audu Maikori, who was rearrested in Abuja is currently being held at the Gabasawa Police Station, Kaduna State and allegedly sharing the same cell with arrested herdsmen. A source at the police station told our correspondent that Maikori, who was arrested on Friday, would have been charged to court immediately but the police deliberately refused to commence the prosecution process. The source said family and friends of the businessman were barred from seeing him. Efforts made by our correspondent to confirm whether or not Maikori is sharing same cell with herdsmen proved abortive as the Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Usman’s phone indicated that he was out of coverage area. It was gathered that the case had been transferred to the Attorney General of Kaduna State and that the Chocolate City boss would appear in Court on Monday for trial. Maikori is being charged for incitement and sharing fake information. A close friend of the embattled record company boss stated that Audu was in need of medical attention as he collapsed at an event some days ago. “He needs to be with his doctors but he doesn’t have access to them where he is. However, a team is being set up to look into the matter and provide legal representation for him” he said.

Popular Native Doctor In Imo Who Buys Used Condoms Dies On Top Of A Prostitute

Tragedy struck in Anara, a satellite town in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State on Thursday, when a popular native doctor in the area reportedly died on top of a commercial sex worker in the town. According to eyewitnesses, the herbalist, who was identified as Lambert Osigwe, died while having sex with a prostitute whose name was given as Onyinye Nwosu in a local brothel in Anara main market. Eyewitnesses recounted that the victim was a regular customer of the harlot who had allegedly offered to give him free sex that day even when he said he had no money. An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said, “Onyinye Nwosu is a LovePeddler who plies her trade in a local brothel in Anara, Isiala Mbano LGA and one Mr. Lambert was one of her good customers whose patronage kept her in the business. “Most times and for unknown reasons, he came to buy used condoms with sperm from the prostitutes and at the same time, patronised his regular customer, Onyinye. On this fateful day, he just came for nothing because according to him, he had no money. “But Onyinye still offered him free sex service. The man started the enjoyment but could not finish as he suddenly started shaking and jerking, and eventually died on top of the harlot.” He explained that the brothel manage¬ment held the prostitute to explain what hap¬pened as she was accused of using charms on the unfortunate Lambart. They quickly called the Divisional Police Officer, Anara, who came with a team of police officers and Ony¬inyechi and detained her in their outpost cell. They later removed the corpse and deposited it at St. Kizito Mortuary, Ama¬raku in Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State. Our correspondent learnt that Osigwe hailed from Umuezeala-Ama in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state and had his dreaded shrine situated in his ancestral home, where people trooped in to consult him for mystical solutions . It was discovered that the death of the man had sent shock wave into the spines of the people doing business within and around the area and out of fear, all the commercial sex workers had fled the area. Our correspondent learnt also that the deceased’s major customers were Internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘yahoo yahoo’ boys, who reportedly used his charms to get at their targets. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Andrew Enwerem, said that he had yet to be briefed.

Police Parade Fake Chemist After Death Of Pregnant Woman

A 30-year-old drug dispenser in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, Godswill Umoren, has been paraded by the police for allegedly injecting a pregnant woman, Mrs. Uduak Udofia, in an attempt to abort her pregnancy. The injection, Kenvibes News learnt on Friday, led to the death of Mrs. Udofia on February 11, 2017. Umoren, who claimed to be a chemist, was said have administered the injection following the advice of the deceased’s husband, Mr. Sunday Udofia. Parading the suspect alongside 21 other alleged criminals at the headquarters of the Cross River State Police Command in Calabar, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, said that the administered injection was meant to terminate the pregnancy of the deceased. Inuwa said the suspect had confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to the court. He said, “On February 11, 2017, one Sunday Udofia reported at Akamkpa Police Division that a chemist identified as Godswill Umoren had, in a bid to terminate and abort the pregnancy of his wife, Uduak Udofia, administered injection which led to her death. The suspect has confessed to the offence and will soon appear in court.” But Umoren, who is an indigene of Ikot- Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State, admitted to administering the injection despite being a qualified health worker. He said, “I was the one that gave her the injection. Her husband called me to his house to examine his sick wife. I asked her what happened, she said that she was having body pain and they bought drugs for her. When I gave her the injection initially, she did not die. “I am not a medical personnel, I learnt how to administer drugs and inject patients from my brother who is a doctor. I only helped her to recover.” Similarly, the police paraded a 25-year- old female armourer, Hope Usang, who was alleged to lease arms to suspected armed robbers in Calabar. The commissioner of police said that Usang was arrested on February 24, 2017, following a case of armed robbery involving one Paschal Bisong of Ekpeyong Effiok Street in the Calabar Municipality axis of the metropolis. The commissioner explained that after thorough investigation by the police, the suspects confessed that they got the arms from Usang for the robbery.
